No visit to Newfoundland is complete without getting Screeched-In — and in Lewisporte, we do it properly.
Join us at Kinden’s Bakery & Café every Friday at 5:00 PM (reservations are required) from June through September for our All Ages Screech-Ins, a lively, family-friendly celebration of one of Newfoundland’s most beloved traditions.
Led with plenty of laughter and local charm, guests will:
- Recite the official oath
- Learn some local slang
- Take a swig of our finest Screech or Purity Syrup
- Kiss Elmer the Cod (he’s always ready to pucker up)
- Receive recognition as an Honorary Newfoundlander
... and because we love food here at Kinden's you will also get to try some flavours of Newfoundland! Ever had moose or Newfie Steak b'ys? G'wan... tis a deadly feed! Here's your chance!
**Adults (19+) are treated to a taste of traditional Newfoundland Screech (rum). Youth enjoy Purity Syrup, a sweet raspberry cordial made by Purity Factories right here in Newfoundland. Mixed with water, it’s a nostalgic local favourite that generations have grown up with.
